YouTube for Video Contests

Does anyone have any experience with leveraging YouTube to run a video contest? I'm planning to run a contest to give away a free vacation. My niece suggested I have people submit videos in order to enter the contest. It sounsd like a great idea, but I don't really know where to start. Has anyone tired something like this for their business?

My initial thought is to have people upload their video contest entries on YouTube and then create a page on my business' Website to display the videos and allow visitors to comment and vote there. Is there an easier way to do this? I'd love some ideas!

YouTube actually has roped off area on their site to run contests. Unfortunately, this area can only be used by paid advertisers. I really don’t know what the cost of becoming a paid advertiser would be.

However, it looks like you could still leverage YouTube to run a contest in a way that wouldn’t cost you anything. You could create a YouTube Group which would allow you to share videos and have discussion on particular topics with members of that group. Groups can be found in the Community Tab and you can easily create your own group.

Another potential option for you may be vimeo.com if you want to somehow pull this off yourself. I don't see any explicit restrictions regarding contests and their videos are just as embedable (sp?) as YouTube videos.

If you are interested in letting another party handle the contest for you check out MemeLabs Contests. I have never used them personally, but there may be a fit there for you.
