Online Survey Tool

 Does anyone have any recommendations for a (preferably free) online survey tool?  I understand there are tools out there that you can use to administer the survey and to analyze results.

SurveyMonkey.com is a pretty inexpensive survey tool that is a good value. You used to be able to do very limited surveying for free until you had to upgrade to a paid version, but the paid option is very cheap and you get a lot for your money. The interface is easy to use and it comes with a lot of analysis tools to help you get more answers from your results. I would take a look and see if it meets your needs.

There are some others that  allow you to conduct some surveys for free, but again, if you want to do heavy duty surveys, you will probably want to upgrade to a paid account. Some free services restrict either the number of surveys or the number of responses you can receive.

If you are interested in only conducting a small number of surveys, but expect a large number of responses, you might want to look at http://www.questionpro.com/ or http://questionform.com which allow 2 surveys per month with unlimited responses. On the other hand, and I haven't tried this one, http://www.esurveyspro.com lets you create unlimited surveys with unlimited responses but seems to be ad supported, so if you don't mind having someone else's ads displayed in your survey, this seems to offer a lot of flexibility.

I have used iContact.com.  This was my first experience with an online survey tool but the technology seems to be quite adequate.  it is not free, but it is free to try for 15 days.  You can send out a survey to up to 250 recepients and log back in for the results.  They tell how many people opened the survey even if they did not fill it in.  You do not need to give any credit card info or other financial stuff to try it out.  Hope this is a help.

If you are looking for a free one, one of the best that I have used is a PHP opensource app called LimeSurvey.  This used to be called PHPSurveyor and is really powerfull.  It even allows users to parially finish a survey and then resume where they left off and many other great features.
