Selling documents online

 How do you sell documents online? I have a current website for a licensed childcare program - through network solutions which we're pretty happy with.  We have developed several products we would like to market (curriculum, menus, recipes) to other childcare providers.  How do I go about setting it up so that customers can download the materials (currently in word format) after paying for the product?  I do know how to add paypal to the site.  Thanks to anyone who can help with this.

One way you can sell documents online is using a shopping cart system.  Many systems have whats called E-Product functionality which will allow your customers to download the product after it is purchased.  I noticed you said you have a website with Network Solutions, have you considered their E-Commerce Product?  They have this capability.

There are some open source shopping carts that let you sell products online.  I'd check out the Wordpress shopping cart.  The software is free and lets you sell digital downloads.  Just google wordpress shopping cart...

         My name is jenia, I also have a site here, and am trying to find out some simular situation of selling products.

So, I did some search work on Google, and found some help.  To sell a product like this, you need to fromat your text or books into a PDF file, that locks it and makes it purchasable.  Also, for this a tool for buying is needed, which you already know.  Adobe offers a software program buyable over the web to format such text documents.  Infact i am trying right now to set up this software and it's tools for my products.   By the way, you may already know this as well, that the name of this form of book is E-Book....  amazon sells these as do many other sites and it is a profitable form of business .  I wish you well, if all else fails go to a search engine to seek out free downloads for making E-Books!

I see that this post dates back to 2008 so you may have found a solution that suits you already. It really depends on whether you want to sell your documents directly from your own site or whether you want to sell them through a document provider site that will take care of the payment issues for you. I work for a document provider (see my profile as I cannot post the URL because I have just created my profile today) and we sell business and academic documents (Word, Excel, PDF, etc.) on behalf of both individual contributors and corporate partners. Depending on the volume of documents you have and your pricing policy, working with a site like ours might be a possible solution for you.
